Primarily, my app, Henry’s AI Tutor, aims to assist with homework in a unique way. Students typically bring assignments home on paper from school, and I wanted to create an effective AI tool to guide them. Personally, I prefer paper over digital methods for my own elementary school children because digital devices often lead to distractions.
Henry’s AI Tutor is designed to be user-friendly. Instead of writing anything down, you simply show the subject-specific tutor a photo, and they provide explanations from various perspectives. Initially, there were many selection options, which I found cumbersome to use repeatedly. I focused on making future apps more effective and simpler in communication.
My focus is on enhancing students’ interest and understanding in learning. While providing answers or writing essays might seem like easy solutions, they often inhibit critical thinking in students. By explaining core problems conversationally and highlighting areas for further thought, student engagement increases.
For example, my eldest son enjoys stories. Sometimes, he finds it challenging to read scientific or social texts due to comprehension issues. Rich explanations with stories make the text much easier to understand.
For math tutoring, there’s a feature to reinforce weak points through repeated practice of similar problems. Additionally, the generated content can be printed on paper or saved as a PDF.
The journey of my app began with the story creation feature, a function at which LLM excels. Ensuring factual accuracy was crucial as it serves as reading material for students. Tailoring the generated content to students’ levels and interests effectively captures their attention.
In “My Story and My Quiz,” the emphasis lies in discussing topics chosen by students. This approach parallels the ease of consuming homegrown vegetables.
“Your Essay Tutor” meets a particular need of mine. Correcting and reviewing my children’s handwritten essays isn’t easy, especially as English isn’t my native language. Manually checking every essay with teachers isn’t feasible either. This app recognizes handwritten texts and helps correct and improve them, starting with praise and guiding comments on what’s done well and how grammar can be corrected.
“Explain Everything” is particularly enjoyable. It explains any image or photo educationally and reads it aloud. When my second son lacks cultural understanding in social subjects, explaining with voice makes comprehension easier. It’s highly versatile in describing and explaining any situation or image.
Lastly, “English Word” helps students understand 20 to 30 words brought from school by defining them effectively with meanings and examples. It also supports voice and language assistance for reading books or recalling forgotten words on memo pads.
